Old Stuff 6: Rockport Park & Play

The Rockport playspot on the Ouachita in Arkansas is a staple for Memphis paddlers.  It has a few pretty good spots.  Starting from the bank on river left, there is the classic wave which has a nice shoulder to ride in toward the center.  This feature also has a hole a little farther over that makes a nice eddy and has a small spot for loops and cartwheels.  Towards the center of the river is a little spin hole.  And finally is Tiger's Jaws, which is a steep hole made for vertical moves.  However, there are a few rocks after the main hole which both give the feature its name and can freak out beginners trying to roll.

I think this pretty much speaks for itself.   Thanks to Arlyn of Team Scum for paddling with me, and to my shuttle-bunny.

Old Stuff 4: Triple Falls

I had my first run of the second drop of triple falls (lol, numbers) after the 2010 Green Race.  Thanks to the Bama Boys for helping me scout.  Another trip back added some helmet cam footy to my media collection.  I tried to edit a video that had slow-mo and was synced to the music, this is what I made.

Old Stuff 3: High School Buildering

Boring day after mock-trial practice and lack of real rock leads to interesting results.  Long story short, I climbed the art building at my high school.  Pretty easy stuff, and many of the buildings around here have this feature in the brick-work. (evil laugh)

Old Stuff 2: First Narrows Helmet Cam Video

The is really just an excuse to try out embedding footage from Vimeo.  But it is definitely an okay video.  Crystal clear footage, I just have to be sure to get some rain-x for the lense.

Old Stuff 1: Mission Gorge Climbing

Family trip to San Diego allowed for a day of brotherly climbing.  It was our first time to climb a crack, and  we both managed to make our way up the climbs.  Later I ended up sessioning on a 5.10?  Overall, pretty sweet day, pics by dad.

Why would you do something like this?

Obviously, I decided to make a blog.  But why?  I've been yearning for outdoor adventure, but I can feel my real motivation waning.  I figured that posting up much of the outdoor stuff that I do will keep me motivated and allow me to psyche up on past stuff that I have done.  ...lest I forget all the awesome stuff I have done.  This is really just an attempt to prevent myself from being crippled by lack of motivation into inaction and the kind of dreaming that leaves you in bed, leaving your dreams unrealized.
